AI Policy Discussion with the American Enterprise Institute: Chairman Kevin Hern and Congressman Obernolte
WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the final “Meet the Experts” event of the year, the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) hosted a discussion on AI policy, featuring Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-23), AEI Senior Fellow Jim Harper, and RPC Chairman Kevin Hern (OK-01).
The discussion focused on AI systems and technologies, regulation, productivity with AI usage versus the job market, and U.S. competition with China.
“The final ‘Meet the Experts’ event of the year with AEI and RPC highlights a critical discussion on Artificial Intelligence," said Chairman Hern. “Congressman Obernolte brings a rare level of technical expertise on AI to Congress and understands the importance of ensuring AI policy supports innovation, competitiveness, and security."
“I’m grateful to Chairman Hern, the Republican Policy Committee, and AEI for hosting this important conversation,” said Rep. Obernolte. “AI is reshaping our economy and opening doors to innovation and prosperity that were unimaginable just a few years ago. The potential benefits to our country are enormous, but we will only realize them if Congress establishes a thoughtful and balanced policy framework for AI. Getting this right is critical to empowering American businesses, supporting our workers, and keeping our nation at the forefront of technological leadership.”
"It has been a delight to host Rep. Jay Obernolte, Chairman Kevin Hern, and the Republican Policy Committee for a discussion of AI governance in the United States,” said American Enterprise Institute Nonresident Senior Fellow Jim Harper. “Together we should ensure that our distinctly American system of support for innovation and free speech continues, consistent with the security, safety, and national interests at stake in the AI race."
