Chairman Tom Price shares optimistic budget vision with Republican Policy Committee
WASHINGTON— House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (GA-06) today met with members of the House Republican Policy Committee to discuss the budget process and highlight the importance of balancing the budget responsibly as soon as possible.
“It was a pleasure to meet with the Republican Policy Committee this morning. I appreciate its leadership and commitment to offering real, positive solutions to the challenges facing the nation,†said Chairman Price. “The American people are looking for policymakers to step forward with a plan to balance our budget and make Washington more efficient, effective and accountable. The Policy Committee will be an important part of that effort."
“We’re fortunate to have someone with Chairman Price’s breadth and depth of knowledge about the budget process and understanding about how to solve our nation’s fiscal problems at the helm of the Budget Committee,†said Congressman Luke Messer (IN-06), who chairs the House Republican Policy Committee. “Chairman Price assured us that this year’s budget resolution will help us reign-in wasteful Washington spending and force the Federal government to live within its means like everyone else.â€
Chairman Price emphasized that our nation’s staggering debt—which exceeds $18 trillion dollars—is the single biggest threat to our economy and national security. He also stressed the importance of developing a visionary budget that unifies the Republican Conference and our country. Members of the Policy Committee shared their view that the budget should balance sooner rather than later, while ensuring sufficient resources to enable our nation’s military men and women to defend our national security.
“We need to balance the budget now,†said Chairman Messer. “To do that, we need to stop spending money we don’t have and deal head-on with entitlements, which are the primary driver of our debt.â€Â  Doing so will “ensure that these valuable programs continue providing needed benefits to current and future beneficiaries while safeguarding the fiscal future for our children and grandchildren,†he added.
